Membrane Plant Goes with Drum Screens
-
One the country's largest "advanced waste water treatment plants" elected to use Drum Screens for the final process. The plant is located in the Southeast and is being expanded in reaction to the swelling population. The existing plant has the ability to treat 20 MGD and is being expanded to handle 60 MGD with the final effluent being essentially equal to potable water.

Drum Screens were specifically chosen for several distinct reasons including the complete elimination of debris carry over, the extremely high mechanical reliability and the seal patter to eliminate debris by passing. Other types of screens reviewed could potentially allow debris to by pass the screens thus either damaging or interfering with the membrane process.

The Drum Screens will be of the Double Entry Single Exit type where the influent enters the drum on either side and the effluent must exit through the screen. Each drum screen is designed to pass 50 MGD with screen aperture of zero point five millimeter (0.5 mm). The drums will be constructed of mainly 316 stainless steel with polyester mesh for corrosion resistance.

The existing plant already has 3 of 7 Brackett Green CF 200® Fine Band Screens in operation (5mm screening) and we also have numerous drum screens operating within 50 miles so it was a natural for the design team to turn to us for the ultra fine filtration requirements to suit the membrane.
