Green Double Entry Drum Screens are ideal for installation
on large volume raw water intakes. They need little maintenance
and effectively remove floating and suspended solids,
thus protecting pumps, heat exchangers and other critical
equipment. Fitted with mesh ranging from 0.5 to 10mm,
these drum screens can be installed as a single unit or as
part of a two or three stage system
Extra Costs Recovered
Although the initial capital cost
of civil works, including a concrete chamber for each
drum screen, may be higher than for a traveling band screen,
the large flows handled and the low maintenance requirements
mean that the extra cost can be recovered within 3-4
years, depending on local conditions.
Applications include the main cooling
water intakes of power stations, refineries and petro-chemical
plants using fresh or sea water. The drum screens can also
be used at the intakes to desalination and water treatment
plants which utilize conventional or membrane technology.
Robust construction
The Brackett Green Double Entry Drum
Screen consists of a robustly constructed drum with
a solid horizontal center shaft which revolves slowly
in heavy duty self-aligning double roller bearings.
These are lubricated from deck-level oil reservoirs.
Water flows from the inside to the outside
of the drum through mesh panels arranged around its
periphery. These mesh panels are cleaned, with the assistance
of gravity, by back washing at deck level.
The drum screen is driven by a simple drive
unit positioned at deck level, the final drive being
by a nylon pinion which engages with a gear ring on
the outside of the drum. The only moving parts are the
drive gear and the main shaft assembly.
Purpose Designed
Brackett Double Entry Drum Screens
are purpose-designed for each individual intake, with
specific features as necessary to suit the particular
operating and site conditions.
Drum screens of this design have been built
by Brackett Green to diameters exceeding 20 meters and
widths up to 5 meters.
Ancillary Equipment
All the plant needed for a complete
screening station can be supplied by Brackett Green.
