FILTER DESIGN
Structure of the BGUSA Debris Filter System
Design & Operation

The filter element (2) is circular and a little bigger than a semi-circle. Normally all debris bigger than 5-6 mm are separated. BG USA filters can be designed according to the size of the debris which have to be separated.

The surface of the filter is divided in segments through stainless steel ribs. In that way "debris collectors" are built- in, the height of which is designed according to the largest expected debris.

Generally the height of the stainless steel ribs is 60 mm.

The backwashing rotor (3) is as big as a filter segment (debris collector) and seals the same during the backwashing process, so that the filter is relieved from pressure and can be backwashed.

The filter can be installed in horizontal or vertical position.

FILTER OPERATION
Mode of operation of the BGUSA Debris Filter Systems

Through its debris collectors the debris filter type HR continuosly separates all the debris that might otherwide clog the condenser tubes.

The degree of dirt of the debris filter is monitored on a screen monitor (8) with limit contacts. When the highest permissible degree of dirt is reached, the waste water valve (10) opens automatically and the backwashing rotor (3) is switched on.

The low pressure existing at the end of the backwashing pipe (4) induces a reversal of the direction of flow (7) of the cooling water in the area backwashing rorot (3) - filter segment (debris collector).

The filter element is sealed and relieved from pressure through the backwashing rotor (3).
Therefore a strong backwash flow (3) lifts off the debris from the filter surface and transports the debris to the backwash pipe (4) through the backwashing rotor channels (9). The disposal of the separated debris is done through the waste water valve (10).

The BGUSA Debris Filter System is backwashed dependently on time, independently of the degree of dirt.

PROTECTION
against interruption of the cooling water(optional feature)

Optionally we offer an overpressure safety device for the debris filter. For example when large quantities of debris suddenly occur owing to particular operating conditions. The safety overpressure device causes a by-pass to be automatically opened when exceeding a permissible dirt level which has been set in advance. If there is an overpressure safety device both sealing plates (5) are designed as flaps with part - turn valve actuator. The cross section of the by-pass is about 25% of the surface of the pipe and can be increased if necessary.

This overpressure safety device prevents from

  • interrupting the cooling water flow and
  • damaging the internal parts of the filter

YOUR ADVANTAGES
when using the BG USA Debris Filter System
  • No clogging of the condenser tubes
  • No manual cleaning of the condenser, therefore no downtimes
  • No corrosion of the condenser tubes through the formation of unaerated parts of the tubes
Erosion Corrosion through increased water flow rate and turbulent water flow - cooling tube - Pitting through stuck coarse particles - Solid matter (coarse particles)
  • Optimum cooling action

  • Optimum heat transfer

  • Reliable separation and removal of debris of any kind by means of the BG USA Technology
  • Easy installation through arbitrary fitting position
  • Minute pressure drops - generally lower than 0.05 bar
  • Short backwash time (70-140 seconds) with low cleaning water requirements (less than 3%)
  • No additional water required for backwash
  • Simple inside contruction, therefore easy access to the internal equipment of the filter: even sealing rings can be changed during operation
  • Maximum efficiency through maximum debris separation
  • Protection against interruption of the cooling water (optional feature) due to a sudden extreme surge of solid matters when a bypass is opened
  • Optimum protection against any overload of the internal parts
  • Reliable world-wide after-sales service
